The Avid Sportsman’s golf instructional programs are world-class.  Randy Cavanaugh has 34 years of experience as a tournament and teaching professional including positions at two of the World’s Top 10 Golf Clubs – Winged Foot and Seminole.  He became a Quarter Century Club Member of the PGA of America in 2007.

Following a 3rd round defeat in the 1976 USGA Amateur Championship, Randy competed on PGA Tours in the US, Europe, South America and Asia.  From 1981 until 2003, he worked in the metropolitan NY area where he served as Head Professional, Director of Golf and General Manager at three private golf clubs.

Randy’s father, Gil Cavanaugh was a Life Member of the PGA and played the PGA Tour.  He served the members of The Jupiter Island Club in Hobe Sound, Florida for 58 years before his death in October 2010.

Randy credits his dad and several other well known golf professionalsfor the playing and teaching success he has enjoyed.  He notes that his teaching incorporates knowledge gained from a lifetime among other teachers and players of the game.

“I have extensive experience as a player. As a teacher, I have worked with students of all ability levels, from beginners to touring professionals. And, while the equipment and how we instruct have changed noticeably, most of what really matters in a successful golf swing remains virtually unchanged since Bobby Jones and Byron Nelson played.”

“I am particularly excited about the advanced technology available to us today. These tools make it easier for me to teach and fit equipment, and stay in touch with students as they travel. Bottom line, they shorten the learning curve for students. We accurately measure and analyze all three essential factors; swing motion, club head data at impact, and the resulting ball launch data. This enables us to make fact based decisions before suggesting swing and equipment changes. It also allows our students to see actual measurements of their improvement.”

“Listed below are gentlemen that I wish to thank. They all personally have had significant influence on my understanding of Golf.  Some were good friends of my Dad, many are great friends of mine.   All contributed their time, patience, and knowledge to assist my endeavors in the Game.  My thanks to all of you, especially Dad, I will pass it on…
